Mrs. Denise Rarick

3rd Grade

My name is Deanise Rarick and it is my pleasure to be part of the awesome third grade team here at Hawking STEAM Charter School 2.  I have over 17 years of elementary school teaching experience, including performing arts and mathematics specializations. I completed 24 units in Child Development Studies before achieving my B.A. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and possess a strong foundation in student centered learning.  I am looking forward to getting to know your child and will make sure that they feel valued and respected in our classroom.

For many students third grade marks a growth spurt physically, cognitively and emotionally. Therefore, I inspire my students to experience the joy of meaningful learning that applies to their lives while also developing the strong social and emotional skills they will need in secondary education and life. I accomplish this by first fostering emotional intelligence so that learning can occur, and then by using collaborative project-based learning activities with an integrated curriculum. Visible Learning is my key goal for this school year, with a focus on developing new ways for my students to take ownership of their own learning.  I am anticipating a tremendous year where your child will be able to answer these important questions about their education; “Where am I going? How am I doing? and Where to next?”

Ms. Sarah Lara

3rd Grade

My name is Sara Lara and I’m a third grade teacher at Hawking 2. I graduated from the University of California, San Diego with my Bachelor of Arts in Communication. I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and my Master of Arts in Teaching Degree at San Diego State University. When I’m not in the classroom, I’m often practicing yoga, taking ballet lessons, or reading mystery novels while snuggling my two cats.

I’m very excited to be at Hawking 2, because of its S.T.E.A.M. focus and many opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning. At Hawking 2 and in my classroom, students learn by exploring, creating, inventing, building and collaborating. Their engagement in hands-on, real-life activities makes my job as their teacher so exciting! (Teaching is way more fun when students are both genuinely learning and having fun.) I’m looking forward to a year full of academic exploration, intellectual and emotional growth, and feelings of excitement about learning. Go Rockets!
