Miss School, Miss Out

Student daily attendance is very important at Hawking STEAM Charter School 2 and ensures optimum learning opportunities.  Please schedule medical and dental appointments for your children at the end of the school day; plan vacations during non-school days only; and make sure your children go to school every day unless they are ill. Please see our attendance policy outlined in the parent/student handbook for specifics.

California determines the amount of income each school district receives based on a formula that includes the average number of students who attend school during the year; therefore, high attendance rates make a real difference.  It is important to note that the rules of attendance calculations have changed from years ago. There are no longer any “excused absences” as far as funding from the state is concerned. The only way a student can be considered not absent is to be physically at school on a given day.

 

Hawking 2 Independent Contracts

If your child will be out for more than five consecutive days, please give the office at least two weeks notice of the absence.  You will need to also sign a contract in the office for your child's work during the absence period in order for the school to receive their ADA funding.
 

 

Perfect Attendance

Each month we recognize students who have perfect attendance. Students with perfect attendance will get to participate in the monthly "Popcicles with the Principal". Three times a year, we hold our STEAM Awards where students with perfect attendance will receive a certificate and partake in the celebration following the assembly. At the end of the year we recognize students for perfect attendance. Students are rewarding with a Perfect Attendance Certificate during the final week of school and entered in a raffle to receive a prize.

 

*Only students who have been on time and in school every day will be rewarded a Perfect Attendance Certificate. If a child is checked out after 8:30 for an appointment and returns to school that day, their perfect attendance remains intact.
