Hawking STEAM Charter 2 believes in teaching the whole child. as a part of our STEAM program, music is connected with the A in Arts. Students receive music instruction covering components of musical theory, music history, composition, vocal instruction, and the learning of various instruments.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. Harrison and I want to take the time to let you get to know me better as your BAND teacher. This is my third year teaching here at Hawking, but my 41st year of teaching Music! I’m so excited and grateful to be teaching the violin to our Hawking students again this year!  And I’m also excited to be learning and gaining new experiences in the classroom each and every day.

I want to share these things about me so that you can get to know me better:  I was born in Fort Wayne, IN, but I grew up in a small town called Yellow Springs, OH that only had a population of 5000 people. This small town girl moved to Evanston, IL where I earned my Bachelor’s in Music Education degree from Northwestern University in 1980. Go Wildcats! I was a dedicated musician (flutist) who practiced 4 hours a day! I earned many awards and experiences such as being a featured soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and being invited to perform with the Rome Festival Orchestra! I went on to earn my Masters of Divinity in 1987 from Northwestern’s Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. My family and I moved to San Diego in 2001 to start a church and as the ministry was growing, I was also teaching music in San Diego! I am an associate pastor at our church here in San Diego. I am joyfully busy!

Throughout my teaching career, I have taught every age from TK-12th grade and I am certified to teach vocal and instrumental music for all of those grades! My mother was a teacher and she instilled a LOVE of learning in me that began at an early age! It is my desire to instill this love of learning music in my talented Hawking students!

I am eagerly looking forward to working with all of you this 2021-22 school year. This year will undoubtedly be filled with lots of twists and turns as we excitedly return to in class learning, but, above all, it will be a year filled with lots of fun and excitement as we all continue to learn and grow together!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Harrison

Hawking STEAM Charter School MS Music Teacher

My name is Milena Ricci and I am so excited to be joining the Hawking team this year! I graduated from Brigham Young University Idaho where I completed my degree in Music Education and was just credentialed in California to teach music last spring! I am originally from Alberta, Canada and am new to San Diego.

I decided to go into teaching because I had so many great teachers who made such a great difference in my life including my own father who taught at my high school. I am so thrilled to be a part of your child’s musical journey here at Hawking. I am all about making music fun and cultivating a love of music in all students, after all who doesn’t like music?
