Hello, my name is Erin Rourke and I teach transitional kindergarten! I was born and raised in Massachusetts where I completed an undergraduate program in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Reading and Literacy. I also worked hard to complete an English Language Learners degree.
I love teaching, especially kindergarten! It is always amazing to me how much they can learn in a year at such a young age. I am very excited to be working at the Stephen Hawking STEAM Charter school. I think learning happens best when it is hands on and project based. I also encourage learning by doing and with teamwork, and I work hard to promote community, respect and kindness within my classroom. I have very high expectations, even at age 4 and want my students to take learning seriously, while enjoying what they are doing!
When I’m not researching the best ways to get your children to learn, I enjoy running, surfing, and hiking! I am also an avid reader and hope to instill the same love of books in my students!
Hi my name is Liliana Martinez and I am a STEAM kindergarten teacher at Stephen Hawking 2 Charter School. I am bilingual in English and Spanish and have taught kindergarten, and first grade. I am a San Diego native and was raised in the San Ysidro community. I have been chasing my dream to become an educator since the second grade thanks to the great role models I had for teachers. I attended San Diego State University and graduated in 2006 when I earned both my Bachelor’s Degree of Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Spanish and my BCLAD Teaching Credential.
My parents have been my inspiration and taught me that by working hard and not giving up one can be as successful as they want. I am now a mother of a wonderful little girl and she is now my motivation to keep being a good role model and dedicated teacher. I work hard for my students and in return have high expectations for them. This project based school is the best setting to achieve those expectations since students get to explore and learn science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through hands-on projects.
I am very grateful that I have the opportunity to give back to my community by teaching in this wonderful school. I am hopeful to inspire these wonderful Hawking students and look forward to meeting you and your child.
Hello, my name is Lindsay Medlock and I am a kindergarten teacher at Hawking 2. I absolutely love kindergarten and all the exploring, learning, and fun we get to have. I grew up in Simi Valley, about 2 hours up North. I came to San Diego to receive my teaching credential at San Diego State University in 2008 and never went back. I love San Diego and now call it home, however I go up North to visit often. My parents and younger brother still live there. My favorite thing about teaching at Hawking 2 is the sense of community you feel when you walk on campus. I absolutely love my students and it is my goal to make them feel safe, excited to learn, and unafraid to take risks inside the classroom. I believe that when I model kindness, the students will follow. I love being a part of the Hawking organization because as an educator I have the ability to teach emphasizing STEAM while using hands-on project based curriculum. I am excited for the school year and look forward to helping your children succeed.
My name is Kelli Brennecke and I am excited to be joining the Kindergarten team this year at Hawking STEAM Charter 2. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from California State University Chico and obtained my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of San Diego, along with my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Outside of teaching I enjoy taking my pup to the dog beach, practicing yoga, making music, and traveling the world.
It is my goal as an educator to prepare my students to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. I commit myself to providing a warm classroom environment where every child feels safe, valued, and understood. I am excited to be part of the Hawking community where I get to teach through a STEAM and Project-based learning focus. My students will be given opportunities to explore, collaborate, communicate, create, and problem-solve through daily hands-on activities. It is going to be a fantastic year learning and growing in Kindergarten!
I am originally from Colorado where I discovered my love for teaching as a ballet teacher. I continued my passion for learning and teaching by pursuing my degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado. I come with experience in pre-kindergarten, second, and third grade. In my free time, I am exploring this new state I now call home by visiting beaches, parks, attending local community events, and learning more about the culture of this area. I love to try new foods by visiting local restaurants, reading new books to discuss and share with others, and continuing to take ballet classes
